The company supplemented its income by offering life insurance products to the general public through the Paul Revere Life Insurance Company, founded in 1930. The following year, the company formed a reinsurance division to provide additional insurance coverage to other insurance companies and established the first of its many subsidiaries in the US. Paul did indeed buy a state-approved financial services company. In 1946, a new president brought far-reaching changes to the company, merging MPLA with PaulRevere and the Life Insurance Company, adopting the more recognizable latter name. This new entity took over the better known name Avco, while Paulrevere became a subsidiary, the latter more or less trading under the name Alliance Health.
In 1965, the insurer founded the Paul Revere Variable Annuity Company, which was awarded the first Massachusetts variable annuity charter. In the 1920s, it had become popular for insurance companies to offer disability insurance. In 1918, the MPA launched the first guaranteed disability insurance program in the United States. The Massachusetts Disability Insurance Corporation, a subsidiary of the company, was founded in 1919, with Francis A. Harrington as president.
Langdeau and John Hancock. Saw the Massachusetts courts increase the insurer's risk legally. But in 1909, growing suspicion of fraternal insurance organizations in the state spawned laws that deterred them in Massachusetts.
In McLean, the court applied for a fast-track procedure in which the insurer could avoid disclosing that the insured had been treated for substance abuse before applying for health insurance.
Gordon Segal, M.D., was disabled, and Fisch filed a countersuit against Paul Revere under R.I. Gen. Fish, filing a business proposal describing the nature of the insurance policy he received from Halperin to support his claim that Hal was per se his agent and acted with apparent authority. To prove the substance of this misrepresentation, he filed an affidavit from Paul Revere, the chief executive, asking Fish for disability insurance because of his history with substance abuse and depression. PaulRevere was therefore obliged to comply with the insurance policies. He and Co. wanted a ruling that found Paulreff had taken out "disability insurance" for SeGal in 1983 and that his decision to stop his benefits was reasonable.
In court, Fish testified that Paul Revere should have refrained from reporting the allegations because the misrepresentations were made by his agent, who was unaware of their untruthfulness. Fisch argued that he did not misrepresent himself in his application for disability insurance under R.I. Gen. So, he claimed, Paul Revere could not have denied the coverage if he had not demonstrably known about it. For Fish to prove in court that Halperin was more than an insurance broker, he must prove that the "misrepresentations" in Fish's insurance application were "material," as R., I. Gen., defined it.
